8 things to do during March Break in Kingston 2023

Kingston offers lots of family-friendly things to see and do over March Break. From visiting a sugarbush to tackling an escape room, exploring a museum to taking in a game, March Break means fun in Kingston.

Maple Madness

1. Maple Madness

Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area

Celebrating its 40th anniversary, Maple Madness will be running every weekend in March and the week of March Break (Mar. 4 – 5, 11 – 19, and 25 – 26). Activities include self-guided sugar bush tours, interpretive stations teaching the process of making maple syrup, wagon rides, pancakes at the sugar shack, shopping for maple goods, face painting, and maple-themed crafts and games. 2. March of the Museums

Multiple locations (See website for details)

Enjoy a week-long festival of museums in Kingston. This free event runs March 13 – 17 and is oriented toward families. Learn about the history of Kingston, get creative with crafts, enjoy shows and presentations, and have fun. See participating museums, schedules, and additional performances on their website. If you’re unable to make it, you can get a take-home activity bag to enjoy at home with your family.

3. Escape Rooms

Sherlock’s Escapes and Improbable Escapes offer in-person and online escape rooms. At Sherlock’s Escapes, try The Doctor’s Redemption in-person (family-friendly for kids 13 and up) or Surviving Summer Camp online (family-friendly for youth) for an easier escape room experience. At Improbable Escapes, enjoy indoor, outdoor, and online escape room experiences, their Wonderland Board Game Café, and new self-guided escape rooms partnered with the Military Communications and Electronics Museum and the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes. Try Seven Dwarfs: Minning Mission In-Real-Life in-person (family-friendly for all ages) or The Triwizard Trials online (family-friendly for all ages) for a harder escape room experience. 4. Rock Climbing at the Boiler Room Climbing Gym

993 Princess St. Unit 12

Practice your climbing skills at The Boiler Room, Kingston’s indoor rock-climbing gym. From beginners to Olympian-level climbers, this space has different options for all ages and skill levels. The types of climbing available include auto-belays, top rope with off-harness belaying, and lead climbing. If you like your experience and want to do more, check out their kids, teens, and adult programming.

5. Fun Zone

541 Days Rd.

Gather the family and head to the Fun Zone to play arcade games, laser tag, virtual reality, and basketball, or explore their indoor play structure built for children (ages 3 – 10). A food counter is available to fuel up with a cold slushy or some snacks so you can continue playing. Find pricing for all activities on their website.

6. Xtreme Trampoline

1525 Robinson Court

Enjoy Kingston’s first trampoline park with your kids this March Break. Jump together on the main court, challenge each other on the dunk court and the dodgeball court, and take your little ones to the kiddie court. On Friday nights, enjoy lights and music plus a free drink during JR Xtreme night (7 – 9 pm) and Xtreme night (9 – 11 pm).

Kingston Frontenacs

7. Kingston Frontenacs Game

1 Barrack St.

Cheer on the Kingston Frontenacs and celebrate their 50th season on March 10 and 11 at the Leon’s Centre. Watch Kingston’s local hockey team during their home games as they play against the Peterborough Petes and the Mississauga Steelheads. Find more information and tickets on their website. 8. Kingston Frontenac Public Library programming

March Break programming at the Kingston Frontenac Public Library offers multiple events geared toward kids. Enjoy two puppet shows (Wish Again, Big Bear and The Gruffalo) at the puppet show extravaganza on March 13 at the Isabel Turner Branch – Cataraqui Room and the Rideau Heights Branch, on the 14 at the Kingston East Community Centre and the Central Branch (Meeting Room 1), the 15 at the Calvin Park Branch (The Friends of the Library Community Meeting Room), and the 16 at the Sydenham Branch (Community Room). No registration necessary. During the family storytime on March 11 and 18 at the Isabel Turner Branch (Cataraqui Room) and the Calvin Park Branch (The Friends of the Library Community Meeting Room), participate in stories, songs and activities (drop in and first come first serve basis). On March 14 at the Calvin Park Branch (The Friends of the Library Community Meeting Room), build your own boat and learn about buoyancy at the whatever floats your boat event (registration opens March 4).

The Screening Room

This year during March Break, The Screening Room is offering indoor kid-friendly programming. Kids movies will play throughout March Break, including Encanto (March 13 – 16), School of Rock (March 13 and 15 – 17), Ratatouille (March 14 – 17), Ponyo (March 13 – 17) and Shrek (March 14, 15, and 17). Admission is $5 for everyone. Kids combos (small popcorn + juice box) will be $5. Visit their website for more details.

Ghost Walk

The Haunted Walk

Go on a 75-minute March break ghost tour, including the original haunted walk of Kingston March from 10 – 18 (7 pm)). Take a guided stroll through Kingston and learn about the spooky history and stories about each location (hotels, courtyards, and burial grounds). See more details on their website.

Kingston Trolley Tours

Enjoy a 1-hour guided Trolley Tour (no stops) through downtown Kingston covering all of the city’s historic old town and downtown shopping district. Tours begin from 1 Brock Street on Saturdays and Sundays at 1 pm.
