Canada's Penitentiary Museum is an award-winning museum dedicated solely to the preservation and interpretation of the history of our federal penitentiaries. Located at the birthplace of the Correctional Service of Canada in Kingston, Ontario, the museum is housed within Cedarhedge, once home to the wardens of Kingston Penitentiary.
Museum visits are self-guided. However, when possible, volunteers and staff are on hand to answer your questions. Please allow a minimum of 45 minutes to enjoy the museum.
Located across the street from Kingston Penitentiary, Canada's oldest maximum-security prison (now decommissioned), a visit to Canada's Penitentiary Museum is complemented by a Kingston Pen Tour.
Admission by donation.
